I'm working on three large paintings now, the self-portrait from the animation, and two other faces.  Here's a couple of pictures of them.

 

I made this animation of one of the new paintings I'm working on, to try to show how the glazes slowly build up on the surface as I work.  This is a progression of 10 images, taken over about 4 weeks.  I'll keep adding to it as I get farther along on the painting.  The painting is just getting started, but I'd appreciate any comments on it at this stage.

 Updated 11/29/08:  I added 5 more frames to the animation, showing the work from mid-October to now.

Robert Pincus, the Art Critic for the San Diego Union-Tribune, came by today to interview me for an article that will run in the Sunday May 18th edition.  I was, of course, honored to be asked.  We had a great afternoon talking about life, art and artists.  I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon.

The staff photographer, Eduardo Contreras, was sent in prior to Bob’s visit to take some shots of me, the work in progress and the studio.  

This is a photo of the entry to the “Pure Painting 2” exhibition.  The show runs through March 30 - May 18, 2008 at the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library in Pacific Beach.  My painting, which is seen on the far left, was included in this group exhibition.  You can see the show at 4275 Cass St., San Diego.  It is curated by Mark Elliot Lugo.

I've started the rest of the paintings in my new series of screaming faces.  I am now working on 14 of these paintings.  Here are pictures of the latest 7 that will complete the series.  I'll continue to post progress photos as I work on them.

An update to the progression of this painting.  I think this painting is close to completion, after about 5 weeks of work. 

 

I'm letting this one rest now, as working on it has inspired a bigger series of screaming faces.  I've enlisted fellow painters, friends, family and students to pose, and have begin work on several new pieces.  I'll post photos of these as they progress.
